Gold Plated Cross Pen

We recently had to buy a birthday present for an 80 year old uncle and, after lots of head scratching, came up with the following gift idea.

The present had to be small enough to send in the post, and be fitting of the occasion – one’s 80th birthday is a significant milestone!

We opted for a high quality gold plated pen from well regarded pen specialists Cross. This gift seemed appropriate for a number of reasons:

It was easy to post, the pen came in a small presentation box and didn’t weigh any more than a normal pen. It might have been gold plated but it wasn’t made of gold!
A traditional fountain pen seemed to convey the right dignity for the occasion.
It was a practical gift that we felt would actually be used by its recipient.
The price seemed appropriate, we didn’t want to spend a massive amount but neither did we want to purchase something “cheap” for this important life milestone.
